This article seeks to analyze Melvin Grove Kyle and the growth of League Evangelical Students (LES) founded by J. Gresham Machen Princeton Seminary students in 1925. Both were scholarly leaders LES served on organization’s board together. paper will establish importance as a leading evangelical scholar biblical archaeologist. It also explain origins how various Presbyterians influenced organization sought advance broader Protestant intellectual life difficult period 1920s 1930s. Machen’s role be highlighted, thinking scholars associated with analyzed. study is important because it helps us grasp Protestantism rehabilitated advanced itself intellectually when movement faced educational marginalization wider culture.
